Weekend Skin Care Rituals for Winter

First, take good care of your skin, and it will take care of you.

No matter how much makeup you slather on your face, the imperfections will find a way to peek through if you don’t take great care of your skin. And no amount of makeup done at any beauty parlour can fix those dry patches, wrinkles or those pesky pimples that are red as a tomato.

Let’s hear it for the weekend!

After five (or six) whole days of balancing your work and social calendars, when Saturday morning rolls in, there’s little more you want to do than just chill out.

Monday to Friday leaves little time to partake in our ideal (5-8 step) beauty routines, so our days off are when we more than make up for the sparse minutes we have for ourselves during the week.

While there’s arguably a number of great ways to relax on the weekend from ignoring all emails to binge-watching a new show, the beauty team at Lyra turns to their favorite products that they just don’t have time to use during the hectic weekdays.

Scrubs and Exfoliators!

Lift the dead skin cells, clean out your pores and help your skin glow.

The physical exfoliation or the scrubbing away of the dead skin cells with facial brushes, microdermabrasion, washcloths, and grain-based scrubs are getting out of fashion and exfoliating Acids are in!

Look for an exfoliant with lower percentages of exfoliating ingredients such as glycolic acid, Salicylic acid, AHAs and BHA, and enzymes such as pumpkin, papaya, and pineapple, for a smoother, younger, brighter skin.

Exfoliators are not just for the face either, there are specific body scrubs that you can use all over for an overall youthful glow. After a scrub or a chemical peel (for face, body or lips), always follow with a hydrating moisturizer depending on your skin type.

For the lips you don’t necessarily need a pricey exfoliator, you can just use a honey-sugar lip scrub that you can make at home or try the lip balm and toothbrush lip scrub. Apply a thick layer of your favourite lip balm to your lips, then gently brush your lips in a circular motion.


Don’t we all love them?

We love to apply a face mask on weekends since, let’s face it, nobody got time for that on a weekday. We recommend using a detoxifying face mask first to help unclog pores and suck up all the dirt that you’ve been harnessing all week, followed by a hydrating/moisturizing mask to add a boost of moisture, especially if you have dry patches, thanks to winter.

The two-step process can be followed by all skin types. The dual treatment leaves your skin in a Goldilocks balance (not too shiny and not too dry).

No, Masks are not just for the face!

Take a cue from all the busy schedules and hold a beauty-themed ‘Treat Yo Self Day’.

Apply every kind of mask imaginable, hair, face, foot, you name it! And don’t worry, to keep the time to a minimum, you can multitask while indulging in an extra-long bath.

Our recommendation? Use a regenerating, revitalizing, hydrating and/or moisturizing hair mask to regain the vitality for those silky smooth locks.

On your feet, use an exfoliating + moisturizing foot mask. Applying them all simultaneously will make you feel like you’re getting an expensive body and hair treatment at a luxe spa.

Essential Oils!

During that extra-long bath, why not take some essential oils?

Even though weekday mornings are all go-go-go, the weekends are a different matter entirely. Instead of a rushed shower, take a bath with essential oils for the senses. A mix of delicious-smelling essentials oils, including ylang-ylang, patchouli, and lavender, will leave your skin incredibly soft with a divine scent.

After, you'll be feeling so relaxed and ready to tackle anything come Monday morning.
